Real Betis’ temporary signing of Ayoze Perez from Leicester City continues to receive coverage from the Spanish media, where local outlets keep bringing details on the efforts made by the La Liga club to secure a deal.
As widely reported at the time, Villarreal had been another side who joined the race to land the striker, but ended up failing in their quest, resulting in his transfer to the club from Seville.
It turns out that Estadio Deportivo now feature one more story about that tussle, they reveal that there was actually another club trying to sign Perez from Leicester City. That was PSV.
According to the story, club manager Ruud van Nistelrooy called the player to communicate their desire to sign him, and director Marcel Brands started working to get a deal done.
It’s said PSV offered Perez €1m to join them, besides paying for half of his salary during that period. But the striker turned down that money and continued to ‘bet’ on Betis, as he had a very clear idea of who he wanted to play for.
The 29-year-old is now loaned by Leicester City until the end of the season, when his contract with the Foxes expires.
