Each day at this time of year, SportItalia director Gianluigi Longari, who is very well connected, does a column on what’s happening in the market.

Today’s version of it has some optimistic news for Leicester City.

With efforts to sign Mathias Soule from Juventus looking increasingly complicated and expensive, and with claims the player prefers a move to AS Roma anyway, the Premier League club have been looking at other options.

Alexis Saelemaekers is one of those.

Owned by AC Milan, the recently turned 25-year-old spent last season on loan at Bologna. He played 30 Serie A games for them, mainly on the left wing, scoring four goals and adding three assists.

Soule, meanwhile, was on loan at Frosinone last season, and playing 36 Serie A matches, mainly on the right wing, the 21-year-old scored 11 goals and added three assists.

Both mainly operating on the wing, but on opposite sides.

Nevertheless, Longari reports negotiations are ongoing for a move to Leicester City. AC Milan want ‘no less than €15m, and the Foxes haven’t hit that figure yet.

Milan want to agree a deal ‘as soon as possible’, so there may well be room for some negotiation.
