Leicester City’s reported interest in Palmeiras defender Bruno Fuchs has caused mixed reactions in Brazil, with journalist Jorge Nicola adding new context on his YouTube channel.
Nicola backed up the ESPN Brazil report that a Leicester sCity cout attended Palmeiras’ Copa Libertadores semifinal against LDU at Allianz Parque.
He admitted he was surprised that the Championship side are looking at a player already aged 26. Sources inside Palmeiras told him that no approach or proposal has arrived so far.
According to Nicola, Leicester City want to wait and see what happens next. Palmeiras plan to trigger the £3m (€3.5m) purchase clause in the loan deal with Atlético Mineiro before deciding whether to keep or sell the defender.
The journalist also explained why Abel Ferreira values Fuchs so highly. The Portuguese coach trusts him not only for his defending but also for his skill with the ball. His long passes and calm play under pressure help Palmeiras open up tight defences.
Atlético Mineiro expect to collect around £3m from the transfer. That income should help Jorge Sampaoli rebuild his squad for next season. Leicester City, sitting 13th in the Championship with four wins, six draws and four defeats, will keep following the player as they search for defensive reinforcements.
