French newspaper L’Equipe report on Tuesday that Leicester City are very much leading the race to sign Nampalys Mendy from Nice this summer.
Despite previous reports claiming Leicester were looking at Mendy as a Kante replacement, L’Equipe say they’ve learned that’s not the case and the Premier League champions wouldn’t mind having both midfielders.
It’s claimed Leicester have already made an offer of between €10m and €15m for the player, and negotiations are continuing. Despite interest from West Ham United, Sunderland, and Wolfsburg, Mendy prefers Leicester because of Champions League football and the chance to reunite with Claudio Ranieri, who he worked with at AS Monaco.
France’s RMC say Leicester’s offer was €10m and talks are continuing, with Nice wanting €16m. The Ligue 1 club feel they can take advantage of increased TV money in the Premier League. According to RMC’s information, Mendy has already agreed his personal terms to join Leicester.
This one looks very much like it could happen.
