Leicester City have identified AS Monaco forward Sofiane Diop as a target this summer.

He mainly operates on the left wing, but has also played in other attacking positions, and managed nine goals and seven assists in all competitions last season.

The Ligue 1 side have completed the signing of Breel Embolo from Borussia Mönchengladbach. He can operate across all three positions up front and his arrival ‘further increases the uncertainty’ around Diop’s future.

That’s according to Friday’s edition of L’Equipe, who explain Leicester City have made an approach to sign the 22-year-old. He had more prominence under Niko Kovač, but isn’t as highly rated by the French club’s current manager, Philippe Clement.

Diop had initially attracted attention from the Foxes, Nice and Borussia Dortmund in the spring. At the moment, it is Leicester who are the ‘most active’ in the chase for the versatile attacker, as Brendan Rodgers ‘greatly appreciates’ his profile.

It’s claimed the Premier League side have made an initial approach, but have not made any offer to acquire the Frenchman’s services so far.
