According to a claim in the Turkish media, Napoli are looking to close in on Galatasaray attacker Barış Alper Yılmaz and are using their former player Dries Mertens to convince the player over a move to Italy.
The Turkey international has been heavily linked with a move Nottingham Forest since last summer after the Premier League side made an attempt to sign him.
Sporx today report on the latest developments regarding the future of Yılmaz and they say Napoli are ready to sit at the table with Galatasaray and try to get a deal done for the 24-year-old.
It’s hoped his current Galatasaray teammate Mertens will be influential in the right winger heading to the Serie A side this summer and could act as an intermediary in a possible transfer.
Only last month we covered reports from the Turkish press that Nottingham Forest are still in the hunt for Yılmaz and haven’t given up hope sign the forward this summer.
There have also been recent reports they Forest scouts recently attended the Istanbul derby between Galatasaray and Besiktas, with the objective to monitor Yılmaz.
Yılmaz has made 28 appearances for Galal this season, scoring 11 goals. He’s contracted to the Super Lig leaders until June 2027.
