Former Feyenoord star Willem van Hanegem has told the Dutch media he’d like his old club to sign Southampton midfielder Jordy Clasie. After an impressive start to the season the Dutch side have faltered in recent weeks, and subsequently Van Hanegem thinks they need to bring in January additions.
Writing in his column for AD.nl, Van Hanegem said Feyenoord should look to make some signings when the transfer window opens in the new year, and that Clasie is the player to bring in. The former Netherlands international doesn’t believe Clasie is happy at Southampton, and even though he’s not spoken to the player he thinks Feyenoord should come in for him.
“Feyenoord in the winter should really do something in the transfer market. I saw Jordy Clasie yesterday at Southampton. Walking there with his soul under his arm, which you can see directly. I have no contact with him, but for me Feyenoord should attempt to hire him. He is precisely the player that is needed,” said the Dutch legend.
Claise joined Southampton from Feyenoord last year, but hasn’t made an impact since arriving in England. Signed by his former Feyenoord boss Ronald Koeman, the midfielder struggled with injury last season, which restricted his number of appearances.
Since the new management was installed Clasie has fallen out of favour, and again watched from the sidelines during Southampton’s win over Everton.
