Leeds United will know next week if they can approach Francesco Marroccu with regards to becoming their new sporting director. The Ascoli sporting director could exit the Serie B club next week after a poor season for the Italian side.

Ascoli News have reported that Marroccu held meetings with the other directors of Ascoli yesterday. On the agenda was their strategy for next season, but also to discuss some major changes at the club.

Three shareholders look on the verge of leaving Ascoli, and Marroccu’s job is also under threat. It was thought he would be informed if he was still requited by Ascoli this week, but this decision has now been delayed until next week.

Claims in Italy suggest there is a good chance Marroccu will be released by Ascoli, and replaced by Igor Budan.

Last week we covered reports that Leeds United owner Massimo Cellino will make another attempt to bring in Marrocuu. Cellino last summer tried to convince the Italian to come to England to replace Nicola Salerno, but he took the decision to remain in Italy.

The Italian would be brought into oversee all footballing matters, and is likely to have control over new manager Garry Monk given the way Cellino has run his clubs over the years.
