On October 25th, Goal reported that Leeds United are keen on Alaves’ Ibai Gomez, looking towards the January window, and ‘hopeful’ of a potential deal for the player.

Sport Witness then did some digging and we were informed Leeds made several offers in the summer, only for Gomez to choose to stay at Alaves and see out the final year of his contract with the club.

The player was described to Sport Witness as being very interested in a move to English football, and it being a Championship club wouldn’t necessarily rule things out, with Marcelo Bielsa also an attraction.

Leeds United will continue to watch the situation, and they’ll have seen another positive slant on Sunday.

Monday’s edition of Marca has an article specifically praising Gomez and his Alaves teammate Jonny. The Leeds target was celebrating his 29th birthday on Sunday and managed to provide an assist to Jonny which helped his side beat Huesca 2-1.

Gomez now has three goals and three assists so far this season, playing on the right wing.

Leeds will be pleased with another good performance, but their problem remains that others, including Gomez’s current club, will feel the same way.
