Elia Caprile spent a couple of years at Leeds United between 2020 and 2022.
The goalkeeper didn’t play for the Whites’ first-team but showed a lot of promise with the U23s side, and Marcelo Bielsa brought into senior training.
He played 19 times for the U23s and then spent the 2021/22 season on loan at Pro Patria in Serie C. The Italian is now thriving at Cagliari and is attracting a lot of attention for his performances.
The 24-year-old spoke to Gazzetta dello Sport and was asked about his time at Leeds United. He described that period as a ‘life experience’ which taught him a lot.
The goalkeeper said: “Leeds was also a life experience: I learned English and saw football from a different perspective.
“Then Pro Patria. I arrived with a long contract with a Premier League club and I shared the season with teammates who were competing for their contracts year by year. I learned a lot.”
The ex-Napoli player was also a Leeds United player during lockdown. He was asked specifically about his memories from that period.
“I enjoyed being alone, it helped me understand that free time should be quality and shared with the right people.”
Caprile has no regrets about his time at Leeds United. Even if he didn’t play for the first-team, he picked up a lot of lessons that have helped him improve.
All of that is now paying off, as the goalkeeper is a regular for Cagliari.
A big move could be on the cards soon, and Leeds United will have some credit in that.
