Giuseppe Bellusci’s loan move to Leeds United to Empoli in the summer has been hailed as a success in the Italian media. The 27-year-old joined the Serie A side on loan for the season, with a right of redemption implemented into the agreement.
TMW have reviewed the transfer deals Empoli carried out during the last window. A number of players were signed by the Tuscan club, and landing Bellusci has been highlighted as one of the successful ones.
The Italian football outlet say Bellusci has made a telling contribution so far for Empoli, along with fellow defensive signing Frederic Veseli from Lugano. With the two new signings at the club Empoli have conceded just 13 goals in 12 games, with 3 of those coming against Serie A champions Juventus.
The most notable result so far this season was the 0-0 draw with second placed AS Roma when Bellusci and his teammates kept a clean sheet against a team containing attacking talent like Edin Džeko and Mohamed Salah. In total Bellusci has played 10 league games this season, and only missed the victory over Pescara last weekend due to suspension.
Given Bellusci’s success since returning to Italy, it’s looking likely his move to Empoli from Leeds United will be made permanent next summer. The defender always spoke of his desire to play in his home country again, and has recently gone on record to question the defensive tactics in English football.
