Giuseppe Bellusci’s permanent move to Empoli could be doubt after the club were relegated to Serie B last night. The 27-year-old is currently on loan with the Tuscan side from Leeds United.

Empoli’s fate was sealed against Palermo this weekend when they were defeated 2-1 in Scilly. Despite a number of chances for Empoli, including a close range header from Bellusci they were unable to match Crotone’s result against Lazio, and subsequently they’ve dropped down to the second tier after three years in Serie A.

This could now have consequences for Leeds United and Empoli getting a deal done for Bellusci, after claims the defender would be joining Empoli on a permanent deal this summer.

Despite the Italian side’s relegation the Leeds United loanee has been one of their standout players this season, and we covered claims from Italy he could be bought outright for €2m.

It’s perhaps unlikely Bellusci would be prepared to play in Serie B at this stage of his career. The player will now contractually return to Elland Road, but given his situation at the club the Italian will still be keen to get a move to a Serie A side this summer.
