Leeds United star Pontus Jansson has told the Swedish media there needs to be changes at the club if they are to achieve promotion to the Premier League.
Jansson is currently preparing for this summer’s World Cup with Sweden and was very open when speaking about his situation in England. The defender sounds frustrated with certain things at Leeds, and clearly wants changes so there’s a challenge for promotion next season.
Asked directly about whether he’ll stay at Leeds next season, Jansson is quoted by Expressen as saying: “I haven’t thought about anything. We take everything after the World Cup.”
Then asked if he hopes there’s developments at Leeds this summer, Jansson said: “Yes I hope so. As has been seen this year, things have to happen. It was really bad both on and off the pitch. Leeds wants to go up to the Premier League, that is how the club goes around and talks, and then there are changes. We came in the lower half for the second part of the season and it’s not good at all.”
After explaining that he’s spoken to the people at Leeds he feels need to know the issues, Jansson was asked if the situation is impacting him: “No, but it’s been a messy season. Many changes in the team, a stricter second half of the season with more training, which is not a problem for me, but incredibly messy and a big disappointment.”
Aftonbladet quote Jansson comparing the Leeds situation to that at Malmo. The defender has been training with his former club and they’ve just changed manager: “When a coach leaves, it is clear that everyone is feeling guilty that the coach will disappear almost because of them. We had a similar situation in Leeds last winter when our coach went. I felt we needed to change the coach, but when it happens, you feel guilty about it.”
Thomas Christiansen left Leeds United in February after a string of disappointing results.
