According to Scouts in Attendance, Leeds United sent a scout to the game between Pena Sport FC and Sporting Gijon ‘B’ on Sunday.
It’s been confirmed Leeds United were present last weekend to see Sporting Gijon beat Pena Sport 6-1. There have been no concrete reports who Leeds United were watching whilst in Spain, but there are suggestions they could have their eye on Sporting Gijon forward Isma Cerro.
Leeds United have already looked to Spain to recruit this summer, after the signing of Samuel Saiz from SD Huesca. Also in recent months they’ve formed a partnership Cultural Leonesa, which has seen summer signing Ouasim Bouy sent out on loan to the Spanish club.
In May, Victor Orta was installed as Leeds United’s sporting director, and one of the Spaniard’s first tasks was to bring in Sevilla scout Dani Salas.
During his time at Sevilla, Salas was a key figure in the Spanish side’s recruitment, and it’s no coincidence Leeds United have stepped up their scouting in Spain.
However, even before Orta was brought in Leeds United signed Alfonzo Pedraza from Villarreal in January. At the time the winger was on loan with Segunda B side Lugo, but Leeds United’s failure to get promotion to the Premier League meant they didn’t make the youngster’s move permanent.
