Former Leeds United striker Mirco Antenucci is providing part of a trio of SPAL forwards experienced in English football.
Turin newspaper Tuttosport believe the situation is somewhat unique in Italian football, and Antenucci joins Marco Borriello, who was with West Ham, and Alberto Paloschi, who was with Swansea City.
It’s only really Antenucci who has an English football experience worth mention. Borriello made a grand total of two substitute appearances for West Ham on loan in 2014, and Paloschi barely hit double figures for Swansea.
Antenucci made over 70 appearances for Leeds United, before returning to Italy with SPAL. With Tuttosport believing the English experience is helping to provide some unique competition among the forwards, it’s surely the former Leeds man who has more of it.
With an ambition to return to Italy and play in Serie A, Antenucci is now getting his chance with SPAL. Following promotion from Serie B, the striker has managed 6 appearances so far, and whilst he’s scored no goals, he has contributed 3 assists.
Whether that’s in any way being benefited by his English experience at Leeds United, as Tuttosport seem to suggest, is surely questionable.
