Diego Llorente is one of multiple Leeds United players facing uncertainty this summer, and even the Italian reports on his future have been somewhat confused.
At one stage, it was repeatedly reported that AS Roma, where the defender spent the last season on loan, were set to make the move permanent via a compulsory purchase clause.
Then others claimed the clause was optional, and some stated there was no clause at all. It’s the latter – no clause at all – claim which has since stuck, but it’s been reported endless times that Llorente would like to stay at Roma.
The Serie A club are thought to have been keen to make that happen. Since his loan from Leeds United, Llorente has been a model professional, and someone good to have around the place.
He accepts being a substitute when that’s the case, and is seen as a good addition to the squad who can be picked up from Leeds United for less than €5m.
However, Corriere dello Sport report Roma are again having second thoughts. They own 24-year-old Marash Kumbulla, who spent last season on loan at Sassuolo.
There’s a chance he could be brought back into the squad as a fourth choice central defender… and Corriere believe that means there’d be no room for Llorente.
Perhaps it’s time for him to start looking at other options rather than letting Roma keep him as a “maybe” all summer.
