Leeds United defender Laurens De Bock believes Wolverhampton Wanderers and Middlesbrough would have a chance of winning the Dutch league.
The fullback joined Leeds United in the transfer window from Club Brugge.
Voetbalkrant have reported on comments the Leeds United player made to Sporza when asked about the level of competition in the Championship: “I think the average team is stronger than average Belgian and Anderlecht could play at the top.
“I think Wolves and Middlesbrough could compete in the Netherlands for the title. The term second division deters some people but it’s not a true representation of the level.”
Wolves and Middlesbrough were two of the standout teams in the Championship this season as both clubs looked to get promotion.
Wolves secured the league title last month with games to spare. Nuno Espirito Santo’s men ended the season on 99 points and will now be preparing for Premier League football next season.
Middlesbrough managed to make the playoffs despite having to change their manager half way through the season. Tony Pulis’ side eventually lost to Aston Villa 1-0 on aggregate in the semi finals.
