Leeds United’s Maximilian Wöber was on loan at Borussia Mönchengladbach last season and they have a desire to keep him at the club.
On May 15th, Gladbach sporting director Roland Virkus revealed that there have been transfer talks with the Whites and the defender.
Later last month, Kicker stated the Bundesliga side can’t afford to buy the 26-year-old, even after Leeds failed to secure promotion back to the Premier League.
The Austrian international’s deal at Elland Road lasts until 2027 and today’s edition of Salzburger Nachrichten claims it ‘seems unlikely’ that he will play in the Championship next season.
“The anticipation for the Euros is so great that I was able to cope with not being able to lie on the beach for a few days like some of the other boys. This tournament will be a career highlight. We go into the finals as underdogs, but we can beat any team. We have proven that many times,” he said.
With the centre-back unlikely to return to Leeds, it remains to be seen where he will play next season. The Austrian has told his agent not to discuss his future until after the Euros.
“I won’t decide what to do next until after the European championship. I told my advisor that he doesn’t need to call me for four weeks. My full focus is on the tournament,” Wöber explained.
Leeds signed the defender from Red Bull Salzburg in January 2023 and the report says he ‘doesn’t categorically rule out’ a return to his former club.
“At 26, I don’t really fit the mould anymore, although the club would benefit from an experienced player. I had a very good time in Salzburg,” he added.
