Leeds United have stepped up their interest in Lyon midfielder Pavel Sulc, with talks underway between the two sides.
Foot Mercato report exclusive information on Leeds efforts for the 25-year-old today. They appear to be making an effort to take advantage of Lyon’s current financial concerns.
Leeds step up their efforts
The website explains that Lyon are still under close scrutiny from France’s DNCG, which is likely to force them to make further sales this summer. Pavel Sulc is among their most valuable players.
Reports in England have linked him with Nottingham Forest, Tottenham, Aston Villa and Leeds in recent months. Indeed, Leeds were reportedly interested last summer. It is now Leeds who have ‘stepped up their efforts’ for the Czech international in recent days.
Talks are underway between Leeds and Lyon about a potential transfer. No agreement has been reached yet, with the potential transfer fee an immediate sticking point.
€25m asking price
Lyon value the 25-yearpold midfielder at around €25m. It currently remains to be seen. Transfermarkt currently value him at €20m. His current deal at the French club runs until 2029 and they’d be reluctant to let him leave were it not for financial pressures.
He joined them last summer from Viktoria Plzeň last season and established himself as a star man, with 15 goals and 10 assists in 42 games across all competitions.
He’s considered ‘indispensable’ in the eyes of manager Paulo Fonseca. He would like to count on him next season, and particularly in their upcoming Champions League third qualifying round clash early in August. They may be tempted to hold off negotiations with the likes of Leeds until that point.
But financial demands could make that difficult. If Leeds, or any of the other suitors, come in and offer the right price, the French side will likely find it hard to resist. For now, Leeds are at the front of the queue and have opened talks about a deal.
