Leeds United are ‘on the verge’ of signing Isaac Schmidt from FC. St Gallen, with advanced negotiations now taking place.

That’s according to journalist Patrick Berger, who reports that Leeds are ready to pay a transfer fee of €3m plus add-ons for the full back. He adds that a full agreement is expected soon.

If these negotiations go as planned, the defender will fly to England tomorrow after St Gallen face Trabzonspor in the Europa Conference League.

Werder Bremen has also been interested in Schmidt, but it is Leeds who are leading the race for him and now pushing to get him to Elland Road.

A report earlier today indicated that Leeds were keen on the full-back as they look to strengthen Daniel Farke’s squad before the end of the transfer window.

That made it clear a €1m deal could be done quickly and that appears to have been the case. Albeit for three times as much as originally stated.

Either way, a deal is now close to being done to make Schmidt the latest arrival at Elland Road in what is proving to be a busy end to the summer transfer window.
