Leeds United midfielder Liam Bridcutt has been left out of Scotland’s squad for the forthcoming World Cup qualifier in September, despite getting a recall earlier in the year. The 27-year-old recently signed for Leeds United after being released by Sunderland.
The BBC have confirmed Scotland’s 27-man squad selected today by Gordon Strachan for their game against Malta next month. Bridcutt’s performances for Leeds United last season earned him a recall to the Scotland squad, and he was involved in the 1-0 win over Denmark in March, after a 3-year absence from the international scene.
However, Bridcutt hasn’t been selected for Strachan’s squad to face Malta, with the Scotland manager preferring the likes of Sheffield Wednesday’s Barry Bannan, and Fulham’s Kevin McDonald.
Bridcutt last week sealed a permanent deal with Leeds United after the former Sunderland player signed a two-year deal with the club.
Garry Monk was keen to add experience to his midfield, and the former Sunderland player was seen as the ideal candidate given he spent last season on loan at Elland Road.
Bridcutt became the ninth signing made by Leeds United this summer after a busy transfer window for the Championship club.
