After narrowly missing out on promotion last season, Leeds United are being backed by many to go the distance this season.
Losing one of their top performers, and top goalscorer from last season, less than a week before the transfer deadline would not be an excellent start to the campaign, but it appears that’s what’s on the cards.
La Dernière Heure in Belgium are reporting that a deal has been reached to sell Kemar Roofe to Anderlecht and they will finalise the move.
According to the newspaper, the two clubs have reached an agreement on a price, and he will undergo his medical in Brussels this weekend.
Leeds initially demanded €7m for the striker, but they reached a compromise in which Anderlecht will pay €6m plus €500,000 in bonuses.
As of Friday night, only the details of how it would be paid needed sorting, but DH is confident that Roofe will be an Anderlecht player sooner rather than later. In fact, they believe he should qualify for their game with Mechelen next Friday.
Whether he will feature in that game is debatable as he has an ankle injury, but the newspaper seem confident he will at least be in the squad.
That will leave Leeds looking for a last-minute replacement, with reports in Italy suggesting they are pushing hard for an Argentine to fill the void that Roofe’s departure is about to create.
