Leeds United have been scouting in Portugal recently, and as sure as night follows day that was going to result in transfer rumours.
It’s reasonable, they’ve not sent someone on a holiday.
The Championship club have been looking at both Porto and Benfica, and a rumour built that Chris Willock was the target.
He’s certainly not going to be the target at Porto, and neither will he be who Leeds were watching for Benfica’s senior team, but if they’ve taken in a Benfica B game then there’s a reasonable chance Willock is the man.
O Jogo cite English reports and say they’ve had it ‘confirmed’ that Leeds are intent on signing the player.
They’re said to have watched him several times, with Marcelo Bielsa recently asking for a fresh report.
The operation has been ‘intensified’ and the Portuguese newspaper claims Bielsa now plans to hire the former Arsenal player.
Since moving to Benfica, Willock has had an up and down time, but there’s been big hopes attached because of the player’s pace.
O Jogo say it’s not clear whether Leeds United want a loan or permanent deal, and there hasn’t been any official approach yet.
