Leeds United’s interest in Ibai Gomez is now a well established line, whether it be looking towards the January window or a potential free transfer transfer when the player’s contract ends in June.
The claims first came from Goal, and then Sport Witness was able to report Gomez would look kindly on a move to English football, with the history and status of Leeds United being an attraction.
Whilst Premier League football would obviously be more attractive, a stay in the Championship wouldn’t completely rule a move out, and Marcelo Bielsa, who Gomez worked under at Athletic Club Bilbao, would obviously be another pull towards Elland Road.
That’s how the story continued, and now AS have another small snippet.
Speaking to Gomez after his Alaves side lost 2-1 to Eibar, they say the player tries to ‘remain calm’, with Leeds United, Eibar, Real Sociedad and Athletic all showing intent to sign him.
AS reiterate that before plumping for one of those options, Gomez will first listen to what Alaves have to say.
This is the 28 year old’s last big contract, and the financial package will play a big part.
