According to Blick, FC Sion have cooled their interest in signing Reto Ziegler, despite holding talks with the defender who left the club in June.

The 30 year old was released by the Swiss side at the end of last season, and he’s been linked with a move to Leeds United in recent weeks.

Blick report Sion chairman Christian Constantin isn’t convinced about bringing Ziegler back to the club, following discussions with his former captain. Asked by Blick about Ziegler coming back to the club, Constantin responded: “I’ll think carefully.”

It seems the Sion chief still has grievances with Ziegler after the player boasted about having talks with Celtic. This led to suggestions in the Swiss media Constantin didn’t offer the player a new contract because of his flirtation with the Scottish champions.

Earlier this month we covered reports from Switzerland that Leeds United are interested in signing the Swiss international after he became a free agent this summer.

Thomas Christiansen could still look to strengthen his defensive options before the window closes, and Ziegler’s versatility could be an asset for Leeds.

Leeds United have several options with Ziegler, and whilst he’s a free agent, so can be signed outside of the window, the player will likely want a club before the deadline passes.
