On Sunday, Leeds United were presented as being in serious talks to sign Romano Schmid from Werder Bremen. The potential transfer was pushed like it could end up with a quick arrival at Elland Road.

However, as soon as the claims made their way to Germany, and media close to Werder Bremen, it all started to fall apart.

Deich Stube, specialists on the Bundesliga side, contacted their sources at the club. Subsequently, it was explained: ‘No one from the 16th-placed English club has contacted Werder Bremen yet. There has been no contact between the clubs, either verbally or in writing. This doesn’t rule out possible talks between Schmid and Leeds, however.’

Bild had a similar slant. Whilst there was agent contact between Leeds United and the 25-year-old’s agent weeks ago, nothing had actually come of it.

Schmid has long been keen on a move to the Premier League, however, Leeds United didn’t advance.

Both Deich Stube and Bild are back again on Monday afternoon with more.

The German newspaper have spoken to Werder Bremen director Clemens Fritz. He told them: “No one has contacted us about Romano. We are currently not expecting a transfer in the winter and are planning with him for the rest of the season.”

Transfer to Leeds United would obviously be welcomed

Deich Stube go further, heavily suggesting it’s an agency trying to hype Romano Schmid in England. The Austria international has changed agents multiple times in recent years as he pushes for that Premier League move.

Given the actual interest isn’t what he would desire, then his latest agency are trying to encourage some coverage. That’s not especially unusual, but it doesn’t often fall aprt so quickly.

The Werder Bremen source explains: According to DeichStube , “CAA Base” has been working hard for several months to place Romano Schmid in the English top flight. The prominent London agency has been representing the Werder Bremen player since last summer. Schmid has changed agents several times in the past three years to secure the best possible future for his career. And it’s understood that Leeds United did indeed enquire about the player a few weeks ago and made contact – but this exchange never reached the crucial stage.’

Whilst it’s clear Romano Schmid and his agents would love a Leeds United move, Daniel Farke’s side don’t appear to be rushing forward.
