Leeds United star Pontus Jansson is hoping to keep his promise to the Elland Road faithful by helping the club get promotion to the Premier League. Leeds United have a chance of returning to the top flight via the play-offs, and the Swede has been instrumental in this.

During an interview with the Swedish media, Jansson was quizzed about the promise he made to the Leeds United fans with regards to promotion. The 25-year-old believes getting to the Premier League this season is achievable, and that Leeds United belongs to be on the big stage due to the size of the club.

“Of course, you can feel that the Premier League is within reach, or at least that we have the chance to qualify for it, and of course that’s beautiful. Leeds is a big club that more or less belong in the Premier League, so sooner or later we should go back there. That was my goal, and that’s what I’m aiming for. For now there’s a chance, and I hope I’ll be able to keep that promise,” said the Leeds United cult hero.

Since Jansson joined Leeds United from Torino in the summer he’s become a favourite with fans because of his no nonsense style of play. However, this has already led to two suspensions due to the number of bookings he’s picked up, and he’s currently just two yellow cards away from a three-match ban.

Despite his disciplinary issues Jansson has become key in Garry Monk’s side, and he will be vital in their pursuit for promotion.
