Over the past few weeks, there have been a number of articles claiming that Ola Aina could be heading to Leeds United.
The Elland Road side have been linked with the defender for the best part of the current transfer window, and the potential move was handed a boost when Mohamed Fares arrived at Torino to further overcrowd the wing-back position.
The Algeria international was signed four days ago on loan from Lazio for the next six months, which could have kickstarted Aina’s move to Leeds, except that this likely won’t be happening now.
The reason for that is the Serie A side announcing that Fares, in what would have been one of his first training sessions with his new side, collapsed in training, suffering an injury to his anterior cruciate ligament, as well as damaging his meniscus.
The player will undergo surgery, and will now likely be out for the rest of the season, or most of it, making his loan move to Torino almost null and void.
This means Ola Aina may have to stay in Turin for the foreseeable future, thus dealing a setback to Leeds United’s chances of securing a transfer in the near future.
Unless Torino find another alternative between now and the last few days of the transfer window, that is.
