Leeds United were close to signing IFK Norrkoping defender Linus Wahlqvist in the last window according to claims in the Swedish media. The youngster has again been linked with a move to Leeds United, with reports the Championship side could make an offer for the player in this window.

NT have reported on claims in the British media Wahlqvist could move to England in this transfer window with Stoke City taking an interest in the 20-year-old. However, NT have confirmed the right back has already been linked with a move to England after Leeds United’s attempts to sign the youngster in the summer.

NT have revealed Leeds United were close to signing the Sweden international, but a deal never materialised. The Championship club have kept an interest in Wahlqvist and along with Stoke City could make a move for the defender.

In November it was claimed Leeds United were preparing a bid for the youngster, and may look to move in on the player in January.  Wahlqvist has also recently spoken about eventually moving abroad when the time is right.

Garry Monk could look to strengthen in the fullback positions after the club sold Sam Byram to West Ham United 12 months ago, and Wahlqvist is an option.
