Leeds United and Birmingham City are showing an interest in NEC Nijmegen forward Sontje Hansen.
That’s according to Voetbal International, who say various clubs were interested in the player last season and have carried that through to the summer.
They explain that Hansen has been impressing since arriving on a free transfer from Ajax last year, scoring six goals and registering seven assists in 38 games last season.
That’s earned him attention in England, where Leeds have shown an interest and see him as a potential replacement for Crysencio Summerville, who is set to join West Ham United.
Birmingham City, one division lower in League One following relegation last season, are also watching the player’s performances in the Eredivisie with ‘great interest’.
They’ve previously signed players from the Netherlands, with Emil Hansson joining from Heracles Almelo and Willum Willumsson arriving from Go Ahead Eagles so it’s a league they know well.
If NEC were to sanction a move, to Leeds, Birmingham or anywhere else, they can ask for a ‘high transfer fee’ as the player is tied to a deal for another three years and they have no intention of letting him go if they can avoid it.
That will depend on his suitors, but the interest is there nonetheless and his name may be one to keep an eye on.
