Leeds United are set to do battle with Hull City for Austria Vienna midfielder Abubakr Barry in the summer transfer window.
That’s according to Kronen Zeitung, who name Leeds and Hull as suitors for the 24-year-old midfielder today.
They explain that Barry has been impressing since joining the Austrian club on a free transfer from Israeli second-division club Bnei Yehuda in May.
He’s now a regular starter and a firm fan favourite who ‘strong in tackling and running’ as well as being ‘technically gifted’ according to the newspaper.
These are qualities that other clubs have noticed, and he’s attracted interest from various teams in Europe, from the German second division and Ligue 1. Then there is Leeds and Hull, who have both put him on their radar as well.
Barry’s current contract runs until 2026, so this summer is a case of renew or sell for Austria Vienna. Their sporting director has hinted it will be the latter, admitting he’d like to see offers for Barry “in the millions of euros.”
Whether Leeds or Hull are willing to offer that remains to be seen but he’s a player that both are keeping an eye on ahead of the summer transfer window, nonetheless.
