Werder Bremen currently have no interest in signing Maximilian Wöber from Leeds United at the end of the season.
That’s according to BILD. They report that the German club currently have no interest in making the deal permanent.
Wöber joined them on loan from Leeds United in the summer. BILD say that due to his injury record, he was considered a bargain for Werder. That injury record has ruined his chances of a revival too. At this moment in time, he’s yet to make an appearance in the Bundesliga.
Werder, then, are left asking ‘why?’ Why should they exercise the €4m purchase clause they have to sign him from Leeds United. There’s no incentive for them to do so and they’re not interested.
Quite frankly, the loan has been a disaster. The injuries the plagued Wöber at Elland Road have followed him back to Germany.
He’s managed a grand total of 79 minutes on the pitch since arriving. Now he’s injured again, suffering from a muscle issue. That’s left him unable to train and Werder clearly very unimpressed.
A report at the beginning of the month insisted they had already abandoned any idea of using the clause to get him from Leeds United. Now that seems to be written in stone, with the overriding question of why should they bother.
Of course, it shouldn’t be ruled out that Wöber returns in the coming months. Austria have qualified for the World Cup and he’ll need minutes to have a chance of getting in Ralf Rangnick’s squad.
That’s an outside hope for Leeds United in terms of getting a transfer fee from somewhere.
