Real Betis’ talks with Leeds United over a permanent move for midfielder Marc Roca ‘is going to be complicated’ thanks to his contract situation and the Whites’ demands.
That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, who explain why talks for the Spanish midfielder will not be a straightforward affair.
Roca joined the Spanish side on a season-long loan deal in the summer, taking advantage of an option to leave Leeds on loan following relegation.
He’s been shining for Betis ever since, establishing himself as a key player under Manuel Pellegrini and shining in Betis’ strong start to the season.
He admitted that was easier said than done and Estadio pick up on that, explaining why a deal is not a simple matter.
They explain that Leeds’ demands in the summer were above what Betis were able to pay, with the Championship side wanting to recover, or even make a profit on, the €12m they paid to sign Roca from Bayern Munich last year.
Furthermore, the player has a contract at Elland Road that runs until 2026, a further complication as it means Leeds are in no rush to sell for a lower price, as they may have done if his deal was expiring.
They are just two of ‘multiple factors’ in a deal that is wrapped in ‘complexity’, according to Estadio, who say Roca himself is simply focusing on his performances and leaving it to his representatives and the two clubs to work out his future.
