Leeds United youngster Wilfried Gnonto is back to getting linked to a Serie A move. This time, according to Gazzetta Dello Sport, it’s Lazio who want the 20-year-old.
As the newspaper speaks about the Biancocelesti’s transfer market, they claim that sporting director Angelo Mariano Fabiani has some names on his notebook ahead of the summer window.
Gnonto is one of them, with the outlet claiming that the Leeds player has been wanted ‘for some time’ now by the Serie A side.
Since Maurizio Sarri recently stepped away from his role at Lazio, they can’t just start moving for new signings.
So the first step is to find a new manager, and then start working with him on the potential arrives they’ll have in the summer.
Their idea is to keep Giovanni Martusciello in charge until the end of the season, so they can calmly decide the club’s plans for 2024/25.
Gnonto made 34 appearances for Leeds so far this season, with seven goals and two assists so far.
It’s no secret that Italian clubs have always kept an eye on him, especially once the Whites got relegated to the Championship.
He still has a contract there running until 2027, though, so we’ll see how the Elland Road side will deal with a potential attempt.
