Leeds United are set to pocket around €160,000 from former player Rafa Mujica’s move to Qatar with Al Sadd.
That’s according to Tinta Amarilla, who say the player’s former clubs, including Leeds, are set to get a percentage of his transfer to the Middle East.
Mujica is joining Al Sadd from Portuguese side Arouca, with the striker having been spotted heading to the country to finalise the move over the last week.
That will be confirmed in the summer, with his recent absence from Arouca’s defeat to Benfica almost confirming his departure before he was then photographed at the airport.
Reports in Portugal and Qatar have indicated the deal will be done for €10m and that’s good news for his former clubs as they’re set to pocket from it.
FC Barcelona, Las Palmas and Leeds will receive 5% of the transfer that’s to solidarity rules, which looks to cover clubs who have trained a player between 12 and 23.
Mujica spent three seasons in Leeds’ U21 side between 2019 and 2021, so they’re set to receive their share of around €500,000.
Perhaps that will help to soften the blow for the Whites, who must be regretting their decision not to keep the Spaniard at Elland Road given his performances this season.
