Leeds United’s interest in Fortuna Dusseldorf midfielder Ao Tanaka only went as far as an ‘email offer’ being sent and nothing more.
That’s according to BILD, who say Leeds sent an email offer worth €3.7m for the player but did not take their interest beyond that.
Tanaka was linked with a move to Elland Road during the summer, with Leeds needing to completely rebuild their squad following the exodus of first-team players after they were relegated to the Championship.
Tanaka was believed to be a target for Daniel Farke and his team and talks were held over a deal, with some expecting it to go through with little issue.
BILD now explain that Leeds United’s only offer for Tanaka was sent via email and was worth €3.7m. That was the only bid of any nature that the German side received for the midfielder.
The question now is whether they will reignite their interest, with all eyes firmly on the January transfer window.
The newspaper states that is Tanaka ‘really wants to move on’ as quickly as possible. As has been suggested, he and his agents will have to look for clubs themselves and ‘not rely on the market’ as they did in the summer.
In other words, it seems Tanaka and his representatives felt the offers would be coming their way but instead all they received was one email offer from Leeds, which didn’t lead to anything concrete.
