Leeds United and Napoli are battling it out to sign Angers’ Azzedine Ounahi in the winter market.
The Whites’ desire to offer more money than the Serie A side is reported by multiple claims in Italy.
Journalist Ciro Venerato was as a guest on Tele A’s program, Terzo Tempo, and his remarks are relayed by Napoli Magazine. He compares the proposal Leeds plan to offer with that of the Italian club.
“Leeds are ready to offer Angers €25m for Ounahi compared to the €15m+ bonuses already offered by Napoli. Leeds offer a salary of €2.5m compared to the €1.5m negotiable proposed by Napoli,” Venerato said.
The Morocco international’s will is to join the Naples club and they are going to use it as a leverage to try to beat Leeds.
Calciomercato echo Venerato’s claim and further add Angers president Saïd Chabane has succeeded in his efforts to create an auction for the player. This has annoyed Luciano Spalletti’s side. The report also says Leicester City are in the mix for the midfielder.
Ounahi’s dream is to play in the Champions League, which Leeds or the Foxes cannot offer. Therefore, the ‘game remains open’ for Napoli.
Meanwhile, L’Equipe say that while Napoli had taken the lead with a €15m bid, an unnamed Premier League side have carried out an offensive and that could be decisive. The latter’s offer is ‘superior’ than the one made by the Serie A club.
It’s further claimed Chabane ‘travelled to England on Monday’ to move forward on the file with the unnamed English side, which heavily suggests the move isn’t ruled out by the player.
L’Equipe insist it is not Leicester. With Leeds as the other Premier League club, it is likely Chabane could be holding talks with the Whites in England for the transfer of Ounahi.
