Leeds United are yet to reach an agreement with Juventus for Weston McKennie but have made it clear they are willing to pay €5m and over for the initial loan deal.
That’s according to Gazzetta dello Sport, who say Victor Orta and co are ready to ‘raise the loan fee’ in order to secure the American’s signature.
The newspaper explains that McKennie ‘seems to have been convinced’ to accept the offer from Leeds, despite having held out for a move to a bigger club since last summer.
He’d be happy to stay at Juventus if it came to that and at the moment that could be the case as they are yet to strike an agreement with Leeds.
Contacts between the clubs have been ongoing over the past few days, with Leeds deciding to ‘push the foot on the accelerator’ and get things into full swing on Thursday and Friday.
Juventus want a deal worth €30-35m and will accept either an outright deal or a loan with a ‘practically guaranteed redemption obligation’ included.
It is here where negotiations have become stuck, despite Leeds ‘making themselves available’ and being willing to raise the initial loan fee they pay ‘beyond €5m’. They are yet to move on the formula of the purchase clause.
That is the final knot that they need to untie but the ball is believed to be very much in Leeds’ side of the court as they look to sign the latest American up to Jesse Marsch’s revolution.
