Mateusz Bogusz signed for Leeds United in the January transfer window, and despite being just 17 years of age he already has some experience behind him.
Moving from Ruch Chorzów, the youngster is part of a young group who are encouraging big hopes in Polish football. There’s a crop of talent which those who follow football in the country hope will be able to signal better times for the national team in the future.
With Ruch Chorzów attracting scouts, Leeds weren’t the only club to have set their eyes upon the attacking midfielder. Italian side Napoli had taken a look, and when Leeds rumours first started in December it was made clear that Brighton & Hove Albion were also interested.
At that stage, Ruch Chorzów were trying their best to get a contract renewal, so it was a three way tussle.
Leeds United won, and Bogusz has been asked to explain his decision making.
In an interview with Poland’s Sport Express, picked up Weszlo, the footballer was asked why he joined Leeds given he had an offer from Brighton as well: “Yes, I had. I was in both of these clubs before I signed the contract. Leeds ‘came over’ to me, I thought it was the perfect place for me to take another step in my career. The club, all its facilities, my development plan. Everything that Leeds offered me was convincing. Hence a 2.5-year contract with the possibility of extension. And in perspective, I hope, playing in the Premier League.”
