Following Leeds United’s promotion back to the Premier League, it was only a matter of time before Andrea Radrizzani spoke to the Italian media.

It took him a few days, but the Elland Road club’s owner has been a prominent figure in Tuesday’s sports coverage of his home country.

Gazzetta dello Sport had a good interview with him in their paper edition, and following that, Radrizzani had a quick chat with Sky Sport Italia about some past and future moves Leeds tried and could look to do.

He said: “In January, we tried to get [Zlatan] Ibrahimović, but now he’s not interested. [Edinson] Cavani would be perfect for the Premier League, and we are monitoring the situation. I dreamed of [Antonio] Conte on the bench, but now I’m enjoying [Marcelo] Bielsa”.

With the pull of England’s top-tier now behind them and a manager of the Argentine’s ilk leading the way, it’s fair to say someone like Cavani could be attainable.

It would be a marquee signing and likely a costly one in the wage department, but since he is now a free agent after running down his contract at Paris Saint-Germain after seven years in France’s capital, no transfer fee would be needed.

It would also be a great show of ambition from Leeds and prove to the world they are well and truly back among the elite.

Exciting times ahead…
