Leeds United’s Diego Llorente completed a loan move to AS Roma on the last day of the winter market.
Having fallen down the pecking order at Elland Road, the defender admitted he didn’t hesitate to leave the Whites when José Mourinho called him in January.
The Leeds owned player’s situation hasn’t improved at the Serie A side as he’s featured just twice for them. A muscular problem forced him to miss last weekend’s league defeat against Sassuolo.
Roma have an option to make the centre-back’s stay permanent, which they don’t intend to use. That’s according to Il Messaggero, relayed by ASRomaLive.it, who state the Spain international and Marash Kumbulla should leave the Giallorossi after this season.
Llorente has ‘never convinced’ the ex-Chelsea manager. His addition at Roma has only favoured them from a ‘numerical point of view and nothing else’.
Prior to the Spaniard’s arrival from Leeds, Roma were already looking for a new defender. With him and Kumbulla set to leave, Mourinho’s side would need at least two, if not three, centre-backs in the summer, who can quickly adapt at the new club.
Llorente’s decision to leave Leeds for Roma on loan seems to have backfired.
