Leeds United’s Mateusz Klich can consider himself ‘most disappointed’ that he’s missed out on the Poland squad for the World Cup.
That’s according to journalist Tomasz Włodarczyk, who believes the Leeds man should have been part of the group heading to Qatar this month.
Poland coach Czeslaw Michniewicz announced his 26-man squad for the World Cup today, with Klich one of the major names missing.
He’s been a regular for Poland since making his debut aged 20 back in June 2011 and has racked up 41 appearances to date.
Klich has only featured five times under Michniewicz so far but was a part of the squad for the last international break, making a 20-minute appearance in the 2-0 defeat to the Netherlands.
His lack of minutes has come about as a result of a lack of playing time for Leeds, where he is yet to be in the starting 11 in the Premier League this season and has managed just 188 minutes of football in total this season.
That appears to have cost him a place at the World Cup, but Włodarczyk does not believe it should have.
“Mateusz Klich’s absence is the biggest surprise for me,” he told Meczyki’s YouTube channel.
“He may feel most disappointed to be missing, because in my opinion he has the skills to give something to the team. We talked about creative footballers and Klich is a footballer who could give a boost.
“He’s missing minutes at Leeds United, but it’s not a tragedy either. He played in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday and is in the orbit of reserve players to come in at the club.
“When I think ‘Mateusz Klich’, I recall one situation. The meeting with Albania and the phenomenal play to Swiderski in Tirana. He has one thing that most of these players don’t have – an overview of the field, technique, intelligence.”
