Signed from Stade Rennais last summer, Gerzino Nyamsi quickly made a name for himself at Strasbourg this season.
The centre-back was one of the best players in the air in Ligue 1 last season, which caught the eye of a number of clubs, including Newcastle United and Leeds United.
The two Premier League sides are mentioned in an article by Goal France today, who explain the duo have joined Napoli in the race to sign him, with the Italians showing their faces as early as January before the Magpies emerged in April.
Still keen, the Serie A side face unwanted competition from England, though, as ‘Newcastle are showing themselves as interested, but it’s especially Leeds who have recently decided to study his profile in a more detailed manner’.
That the Magpies want him isn’t surprising, since they are actively pursuing Sven Botman, therefore showing their desire to buy a centre-back this window.
As for Leeds, they have already bolstered their squad in midfield and at right-back with the arrivals of Brenden Aaronson, Marc Roca and Rasmus Kristensen, and it could be that Jesse Marsch now wants more depth at the heart of his defence.
Let’s wait and see.
