On March 9th, Sport stated Leeds United were leading the race to sign Barcelona youngster Ilias Akhomach the summer.
It was also explained the Whites were trying to seduce the winger to join them over other clubs.
The Spain U19 international made his senior team debut in November 2021 and went on to make two more appearances for the La Liga side. He hasn’t featured for Xavi Hernández’s this season but continues to draw attention from Leeds.
That’s mainly because of his contract situation as the teenager’s current deal expires in June.
Mundo Deportivo now claim Akhomach will not renew his contract with the Catalan club and leave them for Leeds. It’s claimed he has received several proposals from elsewhere but Javi Gracia’s side are in ‘most advanced’ talks to sign the player.
Akhomach is currently in negotiations with the Premier League club and it is expected to be closed at the end of this month.
Leeds are 19th in the table but the Spaniard’s entourage are of the belief they will avoid a drop to the Championship. In the event the Whites are relegated, Akhomach’s case would be discussed again.
As it stands, Leeds are close to agreeing a deal for Akhomach to join them for free in the summer and ‘no other scenario’ is being contemplated at the moment.
