Look across the football spectrum, and you’ll find several clubs with links to teams all around Europe.
Collaborations between clubs in Europe have become commonplace in the modern game. Some owners have even gone as far as buying multiple clubs so that they can form such a connection.
Manchester City have done with the Eithad group, while Watford’s owners, the Pozzo family, also own several clubs around Europe. Leeds United aren’t in such a situation, but it seems they’ve found themselves a new feeder club instead.
El Norte de Castilla and Salamanca 24 Horas report that Leeds United have signed an agreement with Unionistas de Salamanca that will see the Championship club sending youth players to the club.
This comes from the club’s Vice President Javier Tejedor, who announced the news at an assembly of the club’s members.
According to him the ‘close’ agreement with Marcelo Bielsa’s team will see Leeds’ Under 23 players sign for Unionistas de Salamanca in ‘the coming seasons’.
Quite why Leeds would want to send their youth products to a Segunda División B side isn’t explained, although there’s every chance it’s to do with work permits.
They could use Unionistas to help them get work permits for players from South America, a process that plenty of clubs in England have used to their advantage down the years.
