The lawyer of former Manchester United midfielder Anderson has denied that the Brazilian is involved in the crimes he’s been accused of this week.
Currently under investigation for theft, criminal organisation and laundering of goods, rights or valuables, the former player was indicted by the Rio Grande do Sul court on Thursday.
Speaking to Globo Esporte, Julio Cesar Coitinho Junior claimed that Anderson is actually a victim of an attack against his company.
“We weren’t subpoenaed, it’s hard to talk now. There’s an investigation, Anderson is aware of this. But Anderson will prove that he was a victim, not a participant. It’s his position,” said the lawyer.
It’s said that a group, which Anderson is allegedly part of, broke into Santander’s bank system and stole R$35m (£5.5m) from metallurgical engineering company Gerdau.
They made 11 transfers to move the money to companies in four different states in Brazil, and then used it to buy cryptocurrency.
Anderson is actually a part-owner of the company which negotiates the movement of cryptocurrency. When the process started last year, the federal police even searched his apartment for further proof.
ESPN Brasil says Anderson is currently in Turkey, and in case he leaves the country, he’ll be arrested. He also had his accounts blocked by the Brazilian justice system.
