Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers’ decision to overlook Gustaf Lagerbielke convinced him to leave Celtic Park in the winter market. Lecce were keen on acquiring his services but a deal didn’t take shape in the end.

Two days ago, Lecce technical director Pantaleo Corvino revealed that the defender had made a request to join the Serie A side.

TuttoMercatoWeb have interviewed lawyer Daniele Piraino and one of the topics discussed was the Celtic player.

He claims Brendan Rodgers’ side had agreed to let the 23-year-old leave Celtic Park, before changing their stance after Cameron Carter-Vickers suffered an injury towards the end of last month.

The Sweden international, for his part, was keen on joining the Italian club and had made a firm effort.

“The boy was already on his way to Lecce with the consent of Celtic and the approval of the player who would have reduced his salary in order to go and play for Lecce,” he said.

“In the end, due to an injury to a teammate, the Scottish club decided to stop everything. Maybe we’ll talk about it again in July.”

Piraino has left the door open for the centre-back to leave Celtic in the next window. The Swede joined Brendan Rodgers’ side from IF Elfsborg last summer and has featured nine times this season, including two appearances since the end of September.

TMW state Piraino is a lawyer, and he and Gerry Piccolillo, are the founders of Quan Sport Management. The insinuation is that they were involved in the failed Celtic transfer.
