A little earlier, we covered shock claims from Catalan newspaper Sport that Mateu Alemany has had a change of heart and asked Barcelona if he can continue at the club.
Supposed to be on his way to Aston Villa soon, Barca even announced his departure over a week ago, but Marca now make it clear ‘nothing has been signed’ with the Premier League club.
Unfortunately for those Aston Villa fans who were excited by Alemany’s arrival, other Catalan sources are also backing up the, as they put it, good chance that he’ll now continue at the Camp Nou.
Marca have a little more information, and their claims point to some kind of disagreement with Aston Villa. According to the Spanish newspaper, ‘there would be a problem’ between Alemany and the Birmingham club, which means no final agreement has been signed.
That’s why, in a meeting today with Barcelona president Joan Laporta, Alemany offered to see out the final year of his contract and continue with the club’s project.
AS state: ‘According to sources from the Barca club the decision has been made and he will continue.’
Sport’s latest is that Laporta has accepted Alemany’s decision, and his stay is ‘very close’ to being made official.
