On Monday, the stance in Italy, more precisely Gazzetta dello Sport, regarding the Ivan Perisic to Manchester United saga was there was still hope a deal could be done between the two sides as long as Anthony Martial was involved as a loan.

There were hints that José Mourinho could agree to this, and the same newspaper on Wednesday seem to suggest that is still the case.

In fact, they think the whole ordeal could properly come back to life in the coming days, as Inter have told Perisic’s agent that either he sorts out the deal with the Red Devils or his client stays in Milan, which, to be perfectly honest with them, really isn’t an ultimatum.

Those are just the two options available to him.

Regardless, there’s been a slight change in the figures, as Monday’s edition suggested the fee for the whole deal would be €55m + the loan of Anthony Martial for free, without a view to buy.

Today is different, with €45m being what Manchester United would pay for Perisic, because Inter would then pay €6-8m to have the French winger on loan, with the decision to include a redemption clause yet to be made.

While there are strong doubts within the fanbase, and probably the club, over the benefits of losing the 21-year-old, even if it were just for one season, the idea of getting Perisic for €45m, after over a month of ‘€50-55m or nothing’ will undoubtedly be music to Ed Woodward’s ears.
