When Chelsea, through BlueCo, decided to buy a big part of Strasbourg in Ligue 1, Wolverhampton Wanderers likely never thought it would affect them.

Fast forward to Thursday August 31st, and, unfortunately for Wolves, the decision from the Blues to invest in the French side is directly stopping Gary O’Neil from getting his Matheus Nunes replacement.

This is what Alsa’Sports are reporting, as they published an early report that the €25m bid from Molineux for Habib Diarra would be rejected.

This has since been backed up by the likes of L’Equipe, who reported early on Thursday morning that Strasbourg had ‘politely turned down’ the offer and sent it back to Wolves.

Alsa’Sports explain that the reason why Strasbourg can ‘afford to sit on such a sum’ is thanks to the new financial security at their disposal since Chelsea and Boelhy included them in the American’s plans for a multi-club project.

It’s made clear that without the club’s sale, the likes of Jean-Ricner Bellegarde, Ismaël Doukouré and Habib Diarra, much to Wolves’ regret, would ‘certainly have been sold’ during the transfer window.

However, with the money from Chelsea and Boehly, that no longer is an issue, allowing Patrick Vieira to have a more competitive squad at his disposal for the current Ligue 1 campaign.
